Yvon (Ivan) Felix Godbout
August 15, 1943 – February 5, 2025
Ivan passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 5, 2025.
He was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, the 7th of 14 children born to Joseph Victor and Eveline Audelie (Langlais) Godbout. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Della, Mary May, Adelard, Delores, Ralph, Leande, Doris and Victor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia (Murphy), his children Nicole and Andrew, daughter-in-law, Laura (Stanford), and his cherished grandchildren Mabel and Walter, along with his siblings Therese Constantineau, Edward (Jean), Claire Chevalier, Joel (Joan) and Jeannette Foley, and many nieces and nephews.
Ivan started his working life at Phillips Cables in the Woodside Industrial Park but left to pursue entrepreneurship opportunities. Many in the Dartmouth, Burnside and Woodside business communities knew Ivan well from his various business pursuits including: K&D Industries, New Scotland Chowder House, started initially with his brothers Vic and Joel in Downtown Dartmouth, and then a second location in Burnside, followed by Burnside Variety and finally again joining his brother and business partner, Joel, and later his nephew Darren, at Advantage Food Equipment, located in the same building where Phillips Cables was once located.
Ivan especially cherished spending time at his and Pat’s summer home on Panmure Island, PEI. There he could be found working on many special projects, walking the woods to the shore, enjoying the wildlife, driving his lawn mower and tractor, or tinkering in the barn. In retirement, Ivan enjoyed golfing and particularly looked forward to hosting the annual golf weekend on PEI with family and friends. To know Ivan was to know his laugh; there is none like it and no one could resist laughing themselves on hearing Ivan’s infectious laughter.
Ivan loved his family and spent many evenings and weekends at the soccer field or rink with his children. He was a mentor and trusted advisor to many family members and friends. In recent years, he especially loved being ‘Grandad’ to Mabel and Walter.
His love of family was only surpassed by his love of God and his faith. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Woodside since boyhood, having attended school there as a child and later getting married and raising his family there. In later years, after the parish amalgamation, he was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and volunteered at the Dartmouth North Christian Food Bank.
The family wishes to thank the team at the Dartmouth General Hospital who provided exceptional care and comfort to Ivan in his final days, especially the nurses and doctors in the ICU and the palliative care team on 5 West.
Visitation at Dartmouth Funeral home (29 Queen Street) on Tuesday, February 11 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
