It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wilma F Hyland, at the age of 95 on February 6th 2025 at Ross Memorial Hospital. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and joy.
Born August 31st 1929 to Delbert & Hazel Bowins (nee Alldread) both deceased, brother Roy Bowins (d.2009), survived by her sister Betty Morris (Don) of Oshawa. Wife of the late Leroy Hyland (d.1972) and Pete Burns (d.2017).
One of Wilma’s greatest joys in her later years was dancing with her partner Pete. They could often be found at the social club dances. She had a love for plants and flowers as well. Her home filled with vibrant flowers and thriving greenery, that she took great joy in tending to. She loved watching the birds that frequented her yard, taking delight in their song and presence. Her love for nature was matched only by her affection for her rescue cat, who was her loyal companion in the later years of her life.
Wilma grew up in Pontypool and later retired to Lindsay in 2002. The matriarch of a large loving family, she leaves behind 5 children. Elaine Chapman (Doug d. 2022), Ralph Hyland (Linda), June Rafuse (Dave), Dale Dixon (Larry d.2010), Catherine Butson (Ted). Her 12 grandchildren, Tricia Kay (Dave), Megan Chapman, Kristina Hyland (Chris Gee), Michelle Hyland (Tim Phillips), Steven Hyland (Cindy), Michael Rafuse (Stacey), Matthew Rafuse, Kyle Dixon (Kelsey), Casey Leddy (Carl), Drew Dixon (Jennifer), Jeffrey Butson, Jennifer Beldam (Greg). Great Grandmother to 19 , Shelby, Ethan, Eric, Grace, Katherine, James, Carson, Allison, Connor, Brady, Jack, Julie, Brooke, Robert, Douglas, Tessa, Miller, Wallace, Waverley. (8 Girls & 11 Boys)
We would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Ross Memorial Hospital for their care during our mothers stay.
In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes in her memory.
Visitation at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay St N, Lindsay, Friday, February 21 from 6:00 to 9:00pm.
Visitation 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Saturday, February, 22, Service at 1:00pm at Celebrations. Spring burial at Pontypool Cemetery.
