William Norman Obituary
WILLIAM JOHN (JACK) NORMAN
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Norman on December 31st, 2024, at the age of 87. He died peacefully at Nipissing Serenity Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Helen (nee Roy). Jack was the loving father of Christine (Don), Tracey (Kevin) and Jeff (Carolyn). He was a proud grandfather to Alexandra, Chloe, Lauren, Kieran, Max, Willow and Andrew. He was close to his many nieces and nephews, as well as to his great nieces and great nephews.
Jack was born in North Bay, Ontario on April 16, 1937, the son of Lance and Hilda Norman (deceased). He was predeceased by his siblings Ruth, Helen, Minerva and Bob. Jack is survived by Bob’s wife Mona. Jack was predeceased by his mother-in-law Grace Brunet, sister-in-law Esther Roy and brother-in-law Earl Roy (Janice). Jack is survived by his sister-in-law Hilda (Lawrence) and brother-in-law Romeo (Shirley).
Jack joined Bell Canada in 1955, upon graduation from North Bay Collegiate Institute and Vocational School where he specialized in Applied Electricity. He worked initially as a telephone installer, then on the Mid-Canada Line in northern Canada, and finally as a microwave technician serving the North Bay region.
He retired from Bell after 30 years of service and commenced a very active retirement. Together with his wife Helen, they managed their various rental properties, undertook land development and expanded Laurentian Mobile Home Park which they acquired prior to his retirement. In addition, Jack and Helen enjoyed many happy times at the family farm in Chisholm Township, as well as at Travellers Rest Resort in Florida. Jack had many talents and will be remembered for his design and construction of numerous buildings large and small. He was hard working, respected by all and tireless in assisting his children and relatives with projects.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling and skiing in the winter, and boating and golfing in the summer. For many years he participated in the fall moose hunt and each spring he produced a reliable supply of maple syrup, operating his maple sugar bush for 60 years.
Special thanks to Dr. Jinnah, and to staff and volunteers at Nipissing Serenity Hospice, for their care and attention during Jack’s final weeks. Visitation will take place at Hillside Funeral Services, 362 Airport Rd, North Bay on Sunday, January 5th, from 11 am to 1 pm, to be followed by a celebration of Jack’s life starting at 1 pm. If desired, donations to Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be welcomed by the family.
