Robinson, William Douglas
October 7th, 1936 – November 20th, 2024
William Douglas “Doug” Robinson, known as Dad, Grampa, Great-Grampa, and Uncle, peacefully passed away on Wednesday November 20th, 2024, surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer, at 88 years young
.
Doug was born on October 7th, 1936, in Alliston, Ontario, an only child to Hilbert and Edith (Harvey) Robinson. He was raised and educated in Alliston attending the Junction School House and then the Banting Memorial High School where he loved playing football and lacrosse. It was also at Banting Memorial High School where he met his wife Doreen “Dode” MacKenzie who he married on June 30th, 1953.
Doug started working for CP Rail at an early age and worked his way up to Senior Manager of Information Systems, in Montréal. He retired in 1996 and continued in a private consulting role at CP Rail and fully retired in 1999. In his retirement, Doug loved to travel with Doreen and spend time with family and friends. In 2000, Doug and Doreen moved from Kirkland, Quebec to Wasaga Beach after building their forever home, where his parents Hilbert and Edith had their summer cottage on Georgian Bay. Doug spent hours on gardening, lawncare and enjoying the incredible beach view from his chair in the living room.
Doug belonged to the Men’s Probus Club of Wasaga Beach and was an avid curler, from a young age. He was the President of the Stayner Granite Curling Club for many years and was the first recipient of the Doug Robinson Award. This award was created in his name for members that go above and beyond in their involvement with the club.
He is past Master of the Alliston Seven Star Masonic Lodge and was the longest living member. He was also an active member and volunteer at the Centennial United Church in Stayner.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Richard, his wife Claudia, of Washington, D.C., their two sons Matthew (wife Clarisse and son, Noah), of Denver, and Luke of Washington D.C.; his daughter Anne, of Wasaga Beach, her daughter Paula (husband Tony), of Collingwood and children Ethan and Mackenzie; his daughter Louise, of Montréal, and her daughters Céleste and Stella.
He will also be dearly missed by his friends at the Centennial United Church, the members of the Stayner Granite Curling Club, as well as his Brothers of the Seven Star Masonic Lodge in Alliston.
Cremation has taken place with a service in the spring. Although we are devastated, we would like to thank all of those who provided such compassion, and loving care at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, the Campbell House Hospice Care, Dr. Singh, neighbours, and friends.
A Visitation will be held at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Wasaga Beach Chapel on Friday March 7, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be incorporated into the evening visitation at 7 p.m.. The Memorial Service will be held at Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, at 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach, Ontario, on Saturday March 8, 2025 at 11 o’clock with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow.
