Always a dedicated farmer, 96-year-old William Cairns
(1928-2025), from Lower Freetown, harvested his final moments of life
on January 3, 2025 at the Prince County Hospital.
The oldest child of Scott and Georgina Cairns, he had three
children of his own: John (Eva), James (Janet) and Malcolm. William
also will be missed by his grandson Christopher Cairns, by
Christopher’s wife Kate Rundle, by many nieces and nephews, and by
family friend, Shelley.
Throughout the years, William’s favorite things always
included telling stories, rural lifestyles, Holstein cows, fresh
tomatoes, chocolate cake, ice cream, the ADL company, the British
monarchy and Winston Churchill.
He is survived by his sister Amy Borys and by brothers-in-law
William McDowell and Don McConaghy.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Helen (Pendleton),
by his sisters Helen Millar, Winnifred McDowell, Georgina Ferguson and
Louise McConaghy, by brothers-in-law Vernon Millar, Doug Ferguson and
Peter Borys, and by his wife’s siblings, Betty Spurgeon
(Ernie), Sylvia Willis (Mel) and Roscoe Pendleton
(Jean).
Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Ferguson Funeral
Home with visitation at the Davison Funeral Home in Kensington from
4-6 p.m, Wednesday, February 5th. Funeral service on Thursday,
February 6th in the North Bedeque United Church at 2
p.m.
