Peacefully and surrounded by love the death occurred on
Friday February 21st at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital of Bill Hogan
(Fire Chief, Retired) of Charlottetown at 72 years of age. Beloved

(deceased), Jeremy (Lauren Keefe) and Patrick (Isabelle Keeler). Proud
and loving Poppie to his grandchildren Elliot, Avery, Charlotte, Liam
and Abby Hogan. Loving Brother to Bev (Garth Thompson) Ben (Marian),
Father Lyndon, Julia Wright, Rick (Robyn), Pam (Donnie Newcombe)and
Valerie (Andrew Davies). Brother-in-law of Sheri Hogan (Danny Oliver),

Bill served with the Charlottetown Fire Department for over
thirty-five years. He began his service as a volunteer firefighter
while working with Neil’s Ambulance Service. Bill later
became Fire Inspector with the Charlottetown Fire Department in
1981.Bill served in this position for fourteen years until he was
appointed as the Fire Chief of the Charlottetown Fire Department in
1995. He served in this position until retiring from the Charlottetown
Fire Department in 2009. Bill continued to contribute to firefighters
in Prince Edward Island by providing his expertise through instruction
and planning at the Prince Edward Island Fire School. Bill will be
remembered for leading the Charlottetown Fire Department through
expansion and modernization of Fire services in Charlottetown. Bill
will also be remembered known for his extensive knowledge and
mentorship of new recruits and experienced
firefighters.
Bill’s dedication to the Fire Department was only
surpassed by his dedication to his family. Bill was the oldest sibling
of a family of ten and is remembered for his calming presence in times
of hardship and his love of family gatherings in times of joy. Bill
met the love of his life Joanne when he was nineteen and she was
sixteen, they have not been apart since. Bill and Joanne had four sons
together and was known to tell his boys that if they ever needed
anything to call, “I get up in the middle of the night for
strangers, I will certainly get up in the middle of it for you”.
The proudest position that Bill held was as Poppie to his five
grandchildren. Bill would attend all of their sporting events and
recitals, loved having the grandchildren over for sleepovers and
especially the annual Christmas family tradition of baking donuts
whether in Saskatoon or Charlottetown.
