William (Bill) Ray Boadway
March 2, 1937 – February 24, 2025
In Collingwood, Ontario, with his family by his side, Bill quietly finished his last game, leaving his many dear friends and family with countless memories of his easy and contagious laugh, his knack for connecting people, and his warm and welcoming spirit that made those connections so special. Bill was the beloved son of Archie Ray Boadway and Dorothy Connell Boadway. He was deeply loved by his wife, Sue Boadway (nee Quigg); his sister, Diane; his children, Craig (Michelle) and Blair (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Josh, Richard, Gavin, Sam, and Leo; his brother-in-law Keith Quigg, and his nieces Kim and Jacqui and nephew Rob; and by his many cherished friends with whom he shared decades-long friendships.
Bill graduated from Ridley College in 1956, and later attended Ryerson Tech. He was an accomplished athlete playing football for Ridley College, Ryerson, the Brantford Tiger-Cats and even tried out for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. While he excelled in all sports, Bill also devoted his talents as coach and instructor. He instructed downhill skiing and squash and coached soccer and football later in life. He swam, cycled, and played pickleball until the very last months of his life.
Bill’s working life started in grade seven as a drug store delivery boy. With great pride, he used his entire first pay cheque to buy his mother a $5.50 china teacup for Mother’s Day. He later moved into a career in finance and business, climbing the corporate ladder through various roles that took him from Burlington, Ontario to Vancouver, BC and back again. Bill spent twenty-four years with Citibank Canada where, over the years, he held several positions including that of Assistant Vice President. After leaving Citibank, Bill spent several years in semi-retirement running his own business and eventually enjoying full retirement in Thornbury and later Collingwood, Ontario.
Bill’s passions were socializing with friends (new and old), sports, and travel. During his life he was a member of the Toronto Ski Club, Georgian Bay Golf Course and Blue Mountain Golf Course. Bill and Sue explored the world together, travelling by bike, boat, car and foot to many destinations such as France, Spain, Scotland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Thailand and South Africa. Together, they spent many happy winters in the Villages, Florida, where Bill enjoyed time with friends, swimming, and playing pickleball.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date in the spring of 2025 at Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to donate in Bill’s name, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation.
