It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Willie Johannes Steyn, who left us peacefully on May 5, 2025, at the age of 63.Born on December 19, 1961, in South Africa, Willie embarked on a bold new chapter of his life when he moved to Canada in 1997, bringing with him a spirit of courage, resilience, and hope for a brighter future. His journey was a testament to his bravery and determination — qualities that defined his life and inspired those around him.
Willie built a meaningful career in Canada, working in various roles before finding his calling as a project manager in the IT department at Pepsi. Later, his entrepreneurial spirit came to life when he founded and operated Steyn House, a venture that reflected both his hard work and his passion for building with my Mom by his side.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Illse Steyn (Willem Steyn); his son, Conrad Steyn (Amanda Steyn); and his cherished grandchildren, Nelia Steyn and Myla Steyn. Willie’s memory also lives on through his father, Hendrik Steyn (Rene Steyn); his sister, Corietha Cilliers (Hannes Cilliers); and his brother, Rudolf Steyn (Gweneth Steyn).
Willie will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but also for the values he lived by: courage in the face of change, and a brave heart that embraced every challenge with quiet strength. His favorite song, Three Little Birds by Bob Marley, echoed his outlook on life — a gentle reminder that “every little thing is gonna be alright.”
Please join us at Barrie Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 101 Ardagh Road, on Saturday, May 10th, at 11:00a.m. for Dad’s memorial service.
