Wilfred “Wilf” John Burry Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wilfred “Wilf” Burry on January 7, 2025. Wilf passed unexpectedly at the Health Science Complex after a brief illness.
Predeceased by his parents Raymond and Stella (nee Budgell), and Wife Patricia (nee Jardine). Also predeceased by his brothers Alvin, Lewis, and Donald Burry.
Leaving to mourn are his four children: Pamela Neary (Ed), Mike Burry (Joanne), Ray Burry (Shannon) and Sarah Whelan (Neil). Grandchildren Patrick, Scott, Evan, Alex, Everleigh, Aasha and Ivy. Also leaving to mourn are Wilf’s Brother Irwin (Norma), and Sisters Phyllis Lesky (Charlie), Judy Cook (Lorne), Jessie Burry, Linda Drover (Jerry) and Sister-In-law Yvonne Burry as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born on September 23, 1942, Goose Cove, and raised in Baie Verte, Newfoundland, Wilf grew up with curiosity and a love for life’s simple pleasures. He was a Dalhousie University graduate who built a remarkable career in Architecture. He was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions as a proud member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects. Wilf took pride in designing spaces that brought people together, finding beauty in function and leaving a lasting legacy of creativity and purpose.
Wilf shared 44 years of marriage with his beloved wife “Patti”, before her passing in December 2018. Despite this loss, he carried her memory with strength and solace. His children remember him as a supportive father who encouraged their dreams. As a grandfather, Wilf’s patience and humor made him a cherished companion to grandchildren who adored him and eagerly anticipated time with him.
Wilf was generous and community-minded, always ready to help or share advice. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and especially salmon fishing on the Terra Nova River. Preparing epic meals, especially his famous BBQ ribs and Roasted Potatoes and sharing a glass of cheer with loved ones was one of his greatest joys. His passion for sketching, woodworking, and exploring architectural wonders reflected his deep appreciation for creativity and life’s beauty.
A celebration of Wilf’s life will be held later in the Spring when his four children can be together to reflect and enjoy many memories of their lives.
Cremation has taken place.
As an expression of sympathy and remembrance, people are asked to take a moment to enjoy the beauty and scenery of nature which Wilf so dearly cherished.
Wilf Burry leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever remembered and deeply loved.
