It is with profound sadness that we announce Whitney Horace Gay, at age 81, passed away at the Aberdeen Hospital on April 3rd, 2025, with his family by his side.
Whitney worked for Trenton Works for most of his life, and he also worked for James Stewart Construction. He enjoyed working on cars, the camp in Country Harbour, fishing and hunting, and going to Country Harbour for sing songs with his family. He was an avid bowler, and had a love for his cat Mitsey. He also enjoyed travelling with his daughter and son-in-law, and was known to try his luck at the casino. He and Jessie had been together for 63 years, and married for 58.
Whitney is survived by his wife Jessie (Getson) Gay; daughter Tammy (Sandy) Jones; grandchildren Liam and Henry; sisters Joan, Luella (Gary), Carol, Glenda (Noel), and Colleen (Hudson); brothers Tex (Anne), and Shane (Judy); and brother-in-law Robert Patton.
He was predeceased by his parents Alice and Percy Gay; brother Ronnie (first wife Rose) (second wife Velma) Gay; sister Judy Patton; brothers-in-law Dorance Zinck and David Harpell; and step grandson Brian Jones.
A public graveside service will be held in MacLean Cemetery in Hopewell on June 28th, 2025 at 2pm.
Donations in Whitney’s name may be made to the SPCA.
