White, James Langdale ‘Jim’
The Heathcote Community lost it’s longest resident James ‘Jim’ White who passed away at his home, the Historic White Rorke Farm, located across the bridge from the Village of Heathcote.
The White Farm has been in the same family since 1847 when they opened the Old Mail Road allowed settlement in the Williamstown (Heathcote) area. Due to the farm’s location on the Old Mail Road the farm house served as the Land Registry and Post Office for the Collingwood Township area for many years.
He and his younger brother Jack spent many of their childhood roaming the fields and woods of the farm and the outskirts of Heathcote. Jim was predeceased by his brother John ‘Jack’ White (Nancy) on October 25, 2024.
Jim spent his entire life running the family farm while caring for his parents Edith & Gerald White. Jim had many interests other than farming, especially photography, canoeing, biking and local history.
Jim was an extremely good neighbour who generally allowed generations of young village residents to fish, hike and play on the family farm.
Special thanks to Dan Reid and his family, Brad & Janice Vail, Doug Green and Don Grant who helped support Jim in his later years.
