Age 74, of Hantsport, passed away at home on Friday, January 10, 2025. Born in Windsor on July 24, 1950, she was the only daughter of the late Vic and Jean Starratt (Boyd).
In her own words, Mom was most grateful for her faith in God, her children and grandchildren and her family and friends. Mom was the keeper of memories and we were in constant awe of the details she could remember. She told many stories from her youth, including fun times at Grammie and Grampie Boyd’s house, being flower girl at Lawrence and Janet’s wedding and that one attempt at skipping school, thinking that her mother wouldn’t find out. Mom loved to talk and she valued her chats with family and friends. Every phone call was great company for her, especially if you had a story or a laugh to share. The entire town became part of her family as she shared photos of the grandchildren to everyone from the post office to the Credit Union and finishing the loop at the grocery store. There was no doubt to anyone who knew her how proud she was of her family and especially her grandchildren. Emily, Claire, Drew and Rylee were her world. She loved being surrounded by family and she was so grateful for Ronnie and Colleen who invited her out for suppers and cared for her in so many ways. There are no words that can possibly thank you for all you have done. Mom had an incredibly kind and generous group of friends who she adored. She couldn’t wait for Sundays to work with Mary and Laura and her phone calls and visits with her neighbour, Myrna, meant the world to her. Mom’s greatest passion was her knitting – her famous dishcloth sets. She would curl up at the end of the couch working on a set while watching her true crime shows. If you were the recipient of one of these sets, you knew it was made from love. Mom was a devote Catholic and was proud to have helped to look after St. Mary’s Church in Hantsport. Every single night, she prayed for the sick, the suffering and for God’s will to be done. And then she prayed for those on her extensive prayer list. She was always so touched when someone would ask if a loved one could be added to her list. Mom will be greatly missed because there was no human with a kinder heart.
Mom is survived by her children, Robbie, Jan (Jeff) Zettler and Neil (Stacie); grandchildren, Emily, Claire, Drew and Rylee; as well as her precious fur-grandbabies and extended family members.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday, January 17. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 339 King St., Windsor, Father John MacPherson officiating. A reception will be held in the church basement with interment to follow in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.
