Obituary of WALTER EDWARD LUSHAW
Walter Lushaw left this life on March 9, 2025 at the age of 93. He was born in Brandon, Manitoba to parents Nicholas and Clara Lushaw. In 1952 he married Lillian Miller. Together they had two children, built two houses, and continued to live in Brandon until 1972, when they moved to Winnipeg. Walter was a Carman with the Canadian Pacific Railway from 1951 to 1991. His focus was his family, his home and his job. His home was always open to family and in his later years he especially enjoyed visits from his sister Gladys and his sister in-law and brother-in-law Marion (Toots) and Rick.
Walter was rarely idle, always involved in home repairs and improvements. After retirement he took pleasure in volunteering for 20 years with the Winnipeg Christmas Cheer Board, and coffee meetings with his former CPR co-workers.
He lost Lillian to cancer in 2013 and continued to live in the house they shared since 1972 until September 2024, when his declining health resulted in several hospital stays and later necessitated a move to the Maples Personal Care Home.
We are very grateful for the help and support of neighbours Ted, Mike, Ann and family during the last several years.
We would also like to thank the staff of the Maples Personal Care Home for his excellent care. Especially Ray, Maureen and Preet; and Sammi and Guezz at the Health Sciences Centre. You all took such compassionate care of him. We also thank the Home Care staff for their compassionate care prior to Dad’s care home placement. Especially Leo, Glen, Manpreet and Kamwal.
He leaves his two daughters Shelley (Michael) of Nanaimo, B.C. and Kimberley of Steinbach; sister Gladys Cale of Red Deer, Alberta; sisters and brothers-in law Margaret Miller, Marion (Rick) Hamilton, George (Gail) Miller, all of Brandon; his adopted stray cat Rosie and grand-pets Bryn, Smoke and Mango, who will all miss the “bacon man”. He leaves several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Bill Lushaw.
A private family funeral will be held in Brandon on March 17th, where he will be interred with Lillian in the Brandon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Winnipeg Christmas Cheer Board.
