Walter David Williams Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter David Williams on March 7, 2025, at the age of 85. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Dave’s quiet strength and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Born to Walter Banks Williams and Hilda Pearl Williams, Dave’s love for history, aviation, and storytelling began in his youth and grew throughout his life. His remarkable memory for dates and events made him a cherished storyteller, captivating those around him with tales of the past.
Dave worked alongside his father at VOCM Radio, a station his father founded and later operated with the Butlers. He spent 10 years there before moving on to a distinguished 40-year career at A.L. Collis and Son, where he was known for his skill and dedication. Beyond work, Dave had a passion for tinkering and model-building, especially airplanes, and his craftsmanship left a lasting impact on many. Many of these one-of-a-kind models are on display in the Aviation Room at the Conception Bay Museum in Harbour Grace.
Known for his humility, kindness, and unwavering support, Dave was a patient listener and dependable presence in the lives of those who knew him. His quiet strength, patience, and empathy defined his character and made him a trusted friend, colleague, and family member.
Dave leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Gudrun; sons Stephen (Lorraine) of Puerto Vallarta and Jan Erik (Sid) of Mt. Pearl; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, granddaughter Sarah; and grandsons Alexander, Graeme, Anthony, and Jasper. He is also mourned by his siblings Peter (Kathleen), Patsy (Lloyd), Linda, and Paul, as well as nephews Mark, Brent, and Christopher. He is deeply missed by his special niece Andrea Fera, close friends Pauline (Harvey) Branton and Jim (Theresa) Woolfrey & family, and many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Andrew Mark Williams.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at Memorial United Church, Portugal Cove, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial United Church.
May Dave rest in peace, forever remembered for his contributions, kindness, and the quiet joy he brought to those around him.
