Virginia Laurella Dort
September 23, 1942 – December 14, 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of Virginia Dort
announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, December 14th, 2024.
She will be lovingly remembered by her spouse, Vincent Doyle; son Paul (Joanne); stepchildren: Helen (Jeff) Eisenhauer and John (Dori);grandchildren: Peter and Jaden; Siblings: Sylvia Cross, Ontario, Beverley Carey, Alberta and many other family members and friends.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents, James and Edna (Newell) Dort; brother Nelson; sisters: Beverley, Rhoda, and Betty.
Virginia was born and raised in Canso, NS, before venturing to Halifax to live. She had a long career at the Chronicle Herald for 33 years, before retiring. Virginia and Vince moved to Prince Edward Island where they enjoyed their retirement years. They moved back to Nova Scotia in 2019, to be closer to their family.
Virginia loved people and loved to entertain. She was genuine with her feelings, and you felt her love when she embraced you in a warm hug. Visiting her, there was always a baked goods or hidden treat to be shared, by looking in any box, drawer, or cupboard. She loved to knit and garden. Her greatest joy was being a mother to Paul and a grandmother to Peter and Jaden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff in Palliative Care at the VG for their care and compassion.
