Mrs. Violet ‘Linda’ Waldo (nee Giles) passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the age of 80 years. Linda was born in Innisfail to Oscar and Dorothy Giles. She was the eighth of nine siblings, including David, Maudie, Charlie, Harvey, Benny, Coralie, Harriet, and Audrey. Linda was raised and attended school in the Innisfail area. After meeting Floyd Waldo, the love of her life in 1963, and marrying him in 1964, they settled in Red Deer to work and raise a family. Their daughter, Angie came along in 1968, and Kris followed in 1971. Linda loved her girls and was very busy driving them to activities, doing her own activities, and keeping an immaculate home and yard. Linda’s two girls gave her four grandsons, Jamie, Kyler, Connor and Jaydin. Linda adored each of them and loved looking after them, taking them to the park, and attending as many baseball, soccer, hockey, and football games as possible. Her grandsons gave her two great grandsons, Ben and Luca who she could not get enough of, and they always made her smile. Linda worked while her girls were young. She put herself through Secretarial School, but as the girls got older, she stayed home and poured her abundant energy into her homes and gardens. Her yard was always in bloom. Linda loved to sew, knit, crochet, and petit point. She was also very active and loved to swim, ski, bowl, ride horses and was an avid golfer. Linda and Floyd travelled all over Alberta into the States, golfing along the way. Linda was also an avid “gamer”. Not video games but any board or card or word game. She loved her time with her good friends, Teresa, Dorothy, Eileen, Mary, Marilyn and Claudia playing Canasta, Tile Rummy and Dominoes, to name a few. Linda’s biggest love in life however, was her family. She was always helping her daughters and grandsons with something. She loved family dinners, family vacations, and day trips to the zoo or the park. She spent endless hours at the hockey rink and the football field. Linda was always involved in the family reunions and loved visiting with her siblings. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family and friends. Linda will be missed immensely. Linda was predeceased by her loving husband, Floyd, in 2017. A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held at the Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Linda’s honor may be made directly to a Charity of the donor’s choice.
