Obituary of Viljem Grah
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Viljem Grah on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 87, following a short illness.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorna Solum, and daughter, Suzie (Paul Bangs). Cherished “Dede” of Matthew and Nicholas, who were his pride and joy. Predeceased by his brother, Tony. Survived by his sisters, Marijana and Gizeka, as well as extended family and friends throughout Canada and Slovenia—especially his best friend, Leopold Vrecic.
Born in Slovenia, Viljem immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 in hopes of a better life. A skilled painter, he contributed to many projects across the city with dedication and pride. Though a quiet man, his greatest joys came from two passions: watching and talking about hockey and playing the accordion. Later in life, he rekindled his love of music, performing his accordion talents at various fiddler events in Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley.
Family and friends may pay their respects at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held afterward in the Pinecrest Reception Centre. For those who wish, donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Lung Association .
“He put His arms around you and lifted you to peace.”
