Peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital on Monday, February 3rd , 2025, Vilhelms (Bill) Gailitis, passed away at the age of 89, beloved husband of the late Marie Gailitis. He was the loving Father of Bruce (Carolyn) and Edward (Shawna). A cherished grandfather of Luke, Allison, Caleb, Jennifer, Nathan (Hannah), Taryn, Owen, Jadeyn and brother of Elivra Synder, Robert (Bev) Gailitis, and the late Rudolf (Diane) Gailitis.
Bill was born in Rēzekne, Latvia, and with his family was a refugee during the second world war. There were many close calls that God saved his family from as they crossed Europe and they landed in the Port of Halifax as refugees to the great country of Canada. His family was sponsored by a Lativan Baptist church and settled in the Woodbridge area. Through tent meetings at Calvary Baptist church my dad made a profession of faith and while at that church met the love of his life, Marie. Bill started his career in electronics and progressed into a successful sales career selling medical electronics. He also was a good carpenter and built 2 houses in which he raised his family.
By Gods grace Bill and Marie were able to travel late into their 80s and seeing family and hanging out at the cottage. They were always active at their church although it changed over the years it was a priority until my dads last breath. Dad is finally able to meet his Saviour that he talked about for my entire life. I know that he is overjoyed with his current condition and that he missed his wife greatly
The family will receive their friends and family at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Saturday May 24th from 1 pm until time of memorial service in the chapel at 2 pm. Reception for all friends and family to follow.
