Obituary of Verna Cameron
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Agnes “Verna” Cameron (nee MacLeod) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown at the age of 86.
Mom was born and raised in Charlottetown, PEI and was the fourth eldest of nine children and the oldest daughter. Mom truly adored and was very protective of all her siblings. Their bond remained strong and lasted throughout the years.
As a young woman Mom met the love of her life, Brent Cameron, sparks flew and marriage followed. Brent joined the navy and shortly thereafter they moved to the big city of Halifax where they raised their family of five children.
Mom was very active during her entire lifetime. She loved to walk, jogged before jogging was cool, took great pride in her appearance and in later life, was referred to as “The Queen”. Some of her favourite activities included playing Bingo, she built more puzzles of varying sizes that anyone could possibly imagine and was an avid reader of books and read right up to her last days. Mom was a strong-willed woman and while she listened to others opinions it was only hers that was “right”. Mom was very knowledgeable about current events in the news and entertained a good debate. She was a huge animal lover and nurtured many dogs and cats throughout the years.
Mom is survived by her devoted children, Joanne (Calvin), David (Mickey), Darlene, Steven and Craig; seven adoring grandchildren Shawn (Kim), Matthew (Jenn), Lori (Ken), Sondra (Brian), Scott (Lisa), Kyle (Miranda) and Sarah; 12 tender hearted great grandchildren, and loving siblings, Sid, Carol, Bertha, Brendalee and Blair. Mom is predeceased by her parents, Sankey and Mary MacLeod, husband Brent, and brothers Dewey, Manny and Roddie.
Special thanks to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dr. Phillip Champion and team, and Dr. Trina Stewart. We sincerely appreciate the excellent care and kindness shown to Mom.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Mom, you may be gone but your spirit will remain in our hearts forever. We will take great comfort in our cherished memories and our love for you will endure.
