Verna’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Verna Gail Tunke announces her passing on January 2, 2025 at the Peace River Hospital.
Verna was born on August 25, 1964 to Gordon and Marion Tunke in Peace River, AB. She spent most of her life in the Dixonville/Grimshaw area, making memories with family and friends.
Verna is survived by her beloved spouse, Harry Brychka and was a devoted mother to her daughters, Anita (Wayne), Crystal (Corey), Amber (Harley), and Marissa. Her siblings, Leonard and Marvin (Vanessa). Verna was a cherished grandmother to her 11 grandchildren.
Verna was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Marion; her sister, Janice; her sister in law, Sheila; as well as her grandson, Roger. Verna’s life was enriched by countless close friends and co-workers whose lives she touched.
Verna’s love extended beyond family, it encompassed animals too. She would rescue any stray that came along. The last few years of her life she was gifted her loving dog Cody, to which she cared and nurtured for greatly.
Some highlights of Verna’s life were her many passions which included hunting, fishing, garage saleing, building puzzles, playing card games, playing bingo and decorating extensively for Christmas. Verna enjoyed collecting various items such as stamps, coins, teapots and lapel pins, but most of all Verna enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Verna had many career paths throughout her life. She spent most of her career driving truck for Arrow Transport with Harry and was awarded her million miles award. Some other careers Verna embraced were serving at various food places, such as Boston Pizza, A&W and The Mile Zero. She worked at the hospital in the auxiliary and housekeeping. She also worked as a guard at the Peace River Jail, and ended her career path at the Peace River Pulp Mill working fire watch and shutdowns.
The family would like to extend invitations to all who would like to share in the commemoration of Verna’s life. The funeral will be held at the Grimshaw Legion on January 10, 2025 at 1:00PM. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service, starting at 12:00PM.
The service will be followed by the burial at the Grimshaw W.I Cemetery.
Following the burial friends are invited to join the family back at the Grimshaw Legion for a time of fellowship, light refreshments and an open mic.
