With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Vera, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us peacefully after a life filled with love, resilience and devotion to her family.
Born in Alberta, Vera’s life was one of hard work and dedication. She married Robert “Bob”, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and perseverance. After starting their married life in Swan Hills, Alberta, they moved to Sangudo before settling in Grasmere, BC, where Vera embraced the role of a farm wife with tireless energy.
Vera was a nurturing and hardworking woman who poured love into everything she did. Whether tending to her garden, preserving food, or caring for animals, she approached each task with dedication. Her kitchen was always open, and she was known for her incredible home cooking, especially her perogies, which became a cherished favorite among family and friends. After leaving the farm, Vera and Bob moved to Cranbrook (Willowbrook Estates then Kootenay Street Village), where they enjoyed their later years, doing puzzles and spending time together.
A faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Vera deepened her spiritual journey, finding strength and comfort in her faith. Bob lovingly cared for her until his passing in June 2024. Vera then moved into long-term care where she continued to be surrounded by family and friends.
Vera leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory always: sons Ken (Barb), Barry (Terri), Albert (Linda), daughters Kathy (Alan) and Shelley (Mike), 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and her sister Zenovia. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Bob, her siblings John, Alexander, Zenovey “Hoppy”, Alexandria “Sandra”, and Carl, her daughter Colleen, and her grandson Jordan.
Vera’s kindness, strength, and generosity touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
