Bonwick, Vera Louise (nee Lyon)
We are saddened to announce the passing of Vera Louise Bonwick who died peacefully with family by her side on Monday March 24, 2025. Born on April 13, 1939, in Collingwood, Vera spent a brief time working in Toronto before moving back to marry Charles Bonwick and start a family of 4 daughters, Katherine Bonwick, Donna Benn (Bonwick), Sharon Bonwick and Tracey Reilly (Bonwick).
Vera is predeceased by her loving husband Charles and her brother David Lyon. She had 4 grandchildren, Andrea, Ryan, Robbie and Rachel who she treasured dearly, and 3 great grandchildren who will remember her fondly. She is survived by her sister Mary Van Gennip, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and close friends.
When Vera’s children were in their teenage years, the entire family took up cross country skiing, where they enjoyed being together and had many laughs. Later, she and Charles took up golfing; Vera was never very good, at times hitting Charles off the tee, which was quite funny. They loved the time spent together and she enjoyed being outdoors and staying active. She was a true animal lover and always had a dog or two in the house. She cherished Sunset Point and the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay. Vera also enjoyed gardening, euchre, travelling and bird watching.
Her daughters Katherine, Donna and Sharon are heartbroken but know she is no longer suffering. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Chartwell Georgian Traditions – Memory Living where Vera was well taken care of in her final months. Cremation has taken place. No services will be held as per her wishes. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society in Vera’s memory.
