It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Vasilios Sotiropoulos, age 57, born on November 10, 1967, in Katakalo, Greece. Vasilios, a cherished father, partner, son, and friend, passed away on April 1, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, surrounded by love and the warmth of those closest to him: his former wife Effie, their two remarkable sons, Sarandis and Yianni, and his devoted common-law partner, Dina.
Vasilios is survived by his father, Sarandis, and both his Mothers. He leaves behind his Aunts and Uncles and cherished cousins and friends.
Vasilios lived his life with a spirit of unwavering love, joy, and passion—qualities that resonated deeply with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Despite the challenges he faced, including his courageous battle with cancer, he embodied the belief that one’s illness does not define them. He once referred to his health struggles as mere “glitches,” a testament to his resilience and selflessness.
Vasilios’s greatest pride and joy were his two sons, whom he raised with Effie, instilling in them values of strength, kindness, and humility. His humble nature belied the immense impact he had on those around him. He had a natural inclination to help the less fortunate and devoted himself to giving back to his community, touching countless lives through his generosity and compassion.
A poet at heart, Vasilios expressed his understanding of life and its complexities through his poignant words. One of his cherished poems, “Life is Sunshine,” reflects his wisdom and perspective on the dualities of existence:
*Life is Sunshine Peaceful day bright sky Life can be Raindrops That falls like tears through The night Life is heaven Or it could be hell How can you know happy If you haven’t been sad as well Life can teach her lessons But you’re wiser only you know That even a tree Needs both sunshine and Rain to grow.*
Vasilios’s legacy of kindness, inspiration, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
