Obituary for Tony Chun Leung Chau
October 24, 1972 – February 18, 2025
Tony Chau was a beloved father, brother, and husband. It is with broken hearts that we announce that he passed away on February 18, 2025 at the age of 53 after a years-long battle with cancer. He was born on October 27, 1972, in Hong Kong, as the second of five brothers.
Tony’s love of Hot Wheels, Batman, and Boba Fett led to a wonderful collection of miscellaneous items that will decorate the house for ages to come. He always had a wicked sense of humour and a willingness to crack a joke at any time that endeared him to many. Tony was a Vancouver Canucks fan to the very end even though the team was “a disappointment, can we get a Stanley Cup, PLEASE?” With the digital age, Tony was a whiz at Candy Crush and smashed through levels at a breakneck speed in Word Cookies, often with help and friendly competition in his daughter Stephanie.
His family remember him fondly for being the enthusiastic driver for long, winding road trips across British Columbia, a skill for driving many hours across the plains of Alberta, and endless energy. Tony found immense delight and enjoyment in watching his son Ethan excel in sports, especially in baseball teams across the country and in rowing competitions year round. In the spring and summer, Tony could most often be found sitting in the bleachers at baseball diamonds across Metro Vancouver and Canada, most notably traveling to Detroit with his family to support Ethan’s participation in Team Canada for World Juniors. Although Tony’s Spotify playlists were often convoluted and filled with music from C-pop (special playlists were custom made for car rides with his beloved wife!) to Metal and Rock, he was often spotted at concerts with Stephanie, especially the Taylor Swift concert in December. Family members often teased that he was a ‘closet Swiftie.’
He will be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness and humour to everyone in his life. Tony is cherished by many but most closely by his loving wife Teresa, his children Stephanie and Ethan, and his brothers Stephen, Simon, William, and Jeff and their families.
