Tom passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family on June 16 2025 at the Brantford General Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, at the age of 73. Beloved husband and soulmate to Melinda of 34 years, whose love, devotion and care was unwavering. Mourning his passing but cherishing the beautiful memories and the blessing of having him as a Dad are Holli (Jay) and Heather (Rob). Tom was a loving and fun Papa (Pa) to Kylie, Chloe, Sidney & David. Survived by his brothers Ron (Bev) & Ted (Mary), Sisters-in-law, Alison (Glen) & Amanda (Doug) and Mother-in-law Kay. Predeceased by both his parents, Ted & Thelma and Father-in-law Tom. Tom will be greatly missed by many nephews & nieces, neighbours, friends and chosen family.
Tom grew up in Hamilton, ON and had a career in Refrigeration until health issues at a young age forced an early retirement. His lifelong love of hockey lead to his involvement in Junior and Senior Hockey with the Ontario Hockey Association and he held many different positions over the years. His passion for the game and the players and their families he met along the way lead to many cherished friendships throughout the years.
Tom’s life was his family. His wife, his girls and his grandkids were everything to him. His happiest moments were times spent with the people he loved, any moment he had with his grandchildren, building and fixing things in his garage and talking hockey.
Tom’s family would like extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff of the Critical Care Unit at the BGH. Your extra care and kindness during this difficult time was very much appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street, Burford. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tom’s memory to the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health through the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation in Hamilton, ON. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday August 23, 2025 from 2-6pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 605, 9 Main St N in St. George, ON. All are welcome.
