Godby, Tom (December 25, 1940 – March 16, 2025)
Passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, at Woodingford Lodge, Tillsonburg “Tom” Charles Wm. Thomas Godby, formerly of Eden, in his 85th year. Born in Tillsonburg, son of the late Reginald Godby and the late former Nellie (Box) Godby.
Tom will be remembered as a wonderful and much-loved husband of 62 years of Dorothy (Beckett) Godby and a family man who was much loved and respected by his daughter Carrie (Charles Van Lingen), Sheffield, Ontario and proud grandpa of their children: Beth and Emily; and also much loved by his son Christopher “Chris” Godby (Beth) of Oshawa and proud papa of their children: Mallory (Caleb Weir) and their son Levi whom, a very proud great-grandpa, Tom met before he passed, and grandchildren Mark (Megan Godby) and Avery (Josh Campbell). Tom is survived by his brother-in-law Carl Russell, St. Thomas and the late Vivian (April 21, 2012); and survived by his two brothers: Pete (Rose) Godby, Peterborough and Rob (Theresa) Godby, Courtland. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tom was a very capable self-employed Welder/Millwright/Metal Fabricator all his working life with his company “Custom Fabricating” located in the Corinth area. Tom will be remembered as a hardworking and ingenious man who was capable of great things. He was able to weld or fabricate almost anything needed by Tripp-Vogt-Trottier or any member of the public. His creations such as handrails, grain bins, fertilizer utilities and many other metal items can be found throughout our area near and far. Tom had the skillset to restore a 1929 “Model A” Ford and built his own home. Tom loved all aspects of history. He loved to tinker in his shop. He was a proud member of the Tillsonburg Flying Club and loved all things to do with flight.
Friends, neighbours, and relatives are invited to attend public visitation on Friday evening, March 21st, 2025, between 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg. Funeral Service to celebrate Tom’s life will be conducted in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel, Tillsonburg, on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. by Doris Van Den Eeckhout L.L.W.L. Cremation follows the funeral service. Inurnment later in the family plot at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Vienna.
