Thurley Dorothy Dawn English, a cherished homemaker and devoted full-time mother, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in Huntsville, Ontario. Born on April 18, 1939, in Glen Orchard, Ontario to parents Elmer and Thelma Fairhall, Thurley led a life defined by her unwavering dedication to her family, community and her love for the Lord.
Thurley was the beloved mother of Dawn (dec. Mike) Aubin, Dean Lemkay, and Dale and her husband Andy Howse. Loved by her late son-in-law Jeff Johnston. She was the proud grandmother to Erin, the late Heather, and Andrew Johnston, as well as Cara and Cooper Lemkay, and Ashley-Ann, and Jordan Howse. A great-grandmother, she found joy in Aimee, Kayla, Austin, Alora, Jayci, Ryker and Wayland. Thurley will be dearly missed by her siblings Robert Fairhall and his wife Linda and Barbara Michaelis and her late husband (Howard) and her many nieces and nephews, she dearly loved. She is predeceased by her first husband, the father of her children, Harold Lemkay, her second husband, Ross English and her brother William Fairhall (Eva).
Throughout her life, Thurley was known for her ever-busy spirit, always engaged in helping others and finding joy in gardening, whether it be nurturing flowers or tending to vegetables. Her artistic talent shone brightly in her painting, and she became particularly celebrated for her beautifully crafted wedding cakes, which brought joy to many.
Thurley was actively involved in her church and local community, volunteering her time and energy to enrich the lives of those around her. She had a passion for travel, enjoying adventures in the South with friends and family, creating lasting memories along the way.
Known for her innate ability to make others feel welcomed and loved, Thurley’s happiness was infectious; her willingness to do anything for anyone epitomized her generous spirit. Her many friends appreciated her lively personality and the warmth she brought into their lives.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, personal support workers, doctors, and volunteers at Fairvern for the excellent care they provided during her final years.
Thurley’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family and community will be profoundly missed, yet forever celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at MacTier Pentecostal Church, 555 High St, MacTier, ON from 1:00 PM until time of the memorial service at 2:00 PM. Luncheon to follow.
