Hardiman, Thomas Albert
September 30, 1928 – June 5, 2025
A wonderful man has passed this life. We are all saddened and will miss him forever. He was strong, humble, kind, caring, loving, athletic and artistic.
His life was forever changed when he lost the love of his life, Betty. They shared everything and it was evident that they were one, and he missed her always.
He was pre-deceased by his dear wife Betty Louvilla (Boutilier) on October 14, 2014; his parents James and Katie (Boutilier) Hardiman; his parents- in- law Courtney and Tillie Boutilier; his brothers Joseph (Reta) and James (Ada); his brother-in-law Binnie.
He is survived by son Tom (Alana- his caregiver) Port Hawkesbury and their children Adam (Elizabeth) Fort McMurray AB, Luke (Allison) Toronto ON, step grand-daughters Marie (Jason) Port Hawkesbury and Amanda (Rod) Kanata ON and their sons Malcolm and Mason; son Richard (Michele) Enfield NS and their children Kory (Meghan) with great-grand son Leo Spring, Texas and Samantha (Dustin) Truro NS with great-grand daughter Emily. Also survived by nieces Ada (John) Calgary AB and Mary (Nigel) Truro NS and nephew Jim (Judy) Valley NS and their family. Also sister-in-law Neta, niece Helen (Eric) and family and nephew Ronald and daughter Sophia.
A special thank you to Mary and Nigel for always visiting and to neighbours Stephen Anthony and Ernie Romard for being constant friends. Thanks to Jim and Charlene for bringing Lily to visit, it brightened many a day.
The first part of his life was spent in the north-end of Halifax, where schooling included athletics, art and music. Aileen Meagher, an Olympic medalist and artist/writer taught at his school and had great influence on him. As a child he coasted on car bonnets down Citadel Hill.
The next part of his life was spent with his maternal grandparents in Mushaboom NS, where he was mentored by his grandfather Simon, a local builder of all things wooden including sailing vessels.
These influences were paramount in his development as a contributor to the Nova Scotia Festival of the Arts (wood carving) in the 1950s. He was also the creator and carver of the ‘MacPuffin’, a bygone symbol of Cape Breton Island (1966).
He moved his family to Port Hawkesbury in 1960 to work at Stora and here he stayed, living out his life in the home he built.
He requested no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. A family-attended burial service will take place later in Mushaboom. He will rest next to his wife and life-partner, Betty.
Thank you to the great staff at Strait Richmond Hospital (all units). All Doctors, Nurses and Staff are compassionate and caring. Thanks to all his GPs and their staffs, and the pharmacists who were always helpful, often on short notice. Thank you to the staff at Haverstocks for your thoughtful and personal delivery of funeral services.
A life well lived.
