In Celebration of
Theresa Sanae Kodama (nee Shimono)
August 27, 1936 –
February 24, 2025
With profound sadness, the family announces the sudden passing of Theresa Kodama on February 24, 2025 at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga.
Beloved wife of the late Ted Kodama. Loving mother of Derek (Carolina) and Leanne (Grant). Proud grandmother to Naomi and Alexandra. Dear sister of Patricia (late Allan) and George Shimono (Jenny). Predeceased by sisters Clare Tsujimoto (late Mas), Tomie Shiozaki (late Kiyomi), Hedy Iwata (late Fred), Misao Kawabata (late Ross) and Agnes Kanda (Ken). Theresa also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Born in Steveston, B.C., Theresa was the sixth child in a family of eight siblings. During WWII she was interned with her family in Greenwood, B.C. She would later move to Ontario where she would meet and marry Ted, her husband of 59 years. Theresa worked at Bell Canada for a number of years until she had children. She then devoted her life to her family, supporting Ted in his businesses while spending numerous hours driving and volunteering at her children’s school events and sports activities. She would look forward to March Break each year where the family would fly down to Florida for the week. Regular trips to Florida continued when Derek moved down south to study and reside there. With the arrival of her grandchildren Naomi and Alex, Theresa’s life took on new meaning with a glow only a grandmother could have. She would light up as soon as she saw the girls and always took a keen interest in their schooling and sports. Theresa will also be remembered as an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Raptors fan. She would know the teams’ schedule inside and out, and wouldn’t miss a game whether it be in person or on T.V.
Family and friends will be received at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West, Toronto on Wednesday March 5, 2025 from 4-8pm. A private family service will be held at at later date.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation.
