Obituary of Thelma Mae Goodwin
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Thelma Mae Goodwin (nee Hocquard) on March 17, 2025, at the age of 78 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Thelma was born on June 10, 1946 in Paspebiac, Quebec to George and Laura (nee Munro) Hocquard. Thelma married Reynold Briard in 1966 and sadly became a widow in 1969 at the young age of 23.
Later Thelma met the love of her life and beloved husband of 55 years, Rev. Barry Goodwin. Among many things, she was known for her witty sense of humour and love and support for her family and Community. Along with her husband, she was a devout member of The United Church.
Thelma made friends in the many places she and Barry lived. Namely, Gaspé, Kingston, Ottawa and lastly Almonte, Ontario. In her early years Thelma worked at New Carlisle High School as a secretary. Later, she worked at Extendicare in Kingston and the Royal Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa.
She enjoyed playing cards, watching game shows and hockey, especially if the Habs were playing. She is predeceased by her husband Barry, her parents and her brother Francis and sister-in-law Carol, as well as many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
Thelma is survived by her daughter Debbie and her grandchild Lana as well as her Aunt Velma and many loving cousins.
No internment has been planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
