Terrence McCusker
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Terry McCusker on December 29, 2024, at North York General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Terry faced a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and is now at rest.
Terry was born and raised in Toronto, on Alcorn Avenue, the middle child of Patrick and Margaret McCusker. He grew up alongside his older sister Maureen (Trauzzi) and his younger brother and best friend, Denny. Terry leaves behind his beloved wife, Leslie; his devoted children, Gordon (Kelly), Corey (Mike), and Stephen; and his stepchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Donna, and Darlene, (predeceased by stepson Grant).
Terry will be missed by his grandchildren Lauren (Kyle), Troy (Emily), Paige, and Vaughn, as well as his great-grandchildren, Sierra and Brody, who brought him so much joy in his final months.
Terry will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, his extended family, and the many dear friends whose lives he touched.
As a young man, Terry excelled in a variety of sports, but it was his lifelong passion for hockey that defined him. Whether playing, coaching, or supporting his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, hockey remained a central part of his life. An enthusiastic conversationalist, Terry could strike up a hockey discussion with anyone, whether they were lifelong friends or strangers he met on the street.
Terry’s career began at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) before moving on to the Toronto Star. He spent the last 25 years at Parmalat Dairy.
Terry’s proudest accomplishment was his 45 years of dedication to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). His commitment to the program allowed him to develop lifelong friendships and make a profound impact by sharing his personal experiences with others in meetings, groups, and institutions.
Terry had an innate ability to bring laughter to any room and a compassion that lifted spirits, even in the most challenging times.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Parish, 39 Green Lane, Thornhill, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or your preferred charity
