Ted Thomas Obituary
Edward Charles “Ted” Thomas, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Rotary Hospice on March 22, 2025 in his 101st year. Born July 6, 1924 in Goderich, son of Henry and Lillian Thomas.
Ted was a naval gunner with the Merchant Marine during WWII and traveled through the Panama Canal several times to ports in Venezuela, Australia, Italy and Halifax. He was a machinist by trade and worked at TB Woods until his retirement. Ted had a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved hockey and enjoyed downhill skiing well into his 80’s. Upon his retirement in 1989 he bought a sailboat and joined the Wildwood Sailing Club where he thoroughly enjoyed so many years sailing, racing and the wonderful friends there.
Predeceased by his wife Shirley (Petrie). Ted is survived by his children Dan (Mary), Dave (Marlene), Don (Zoe), Dale (Lori), Susan Easthom (Randy). Grandfather of Christy, Todd (Suzanna), Christian (Kate), Adam (Priya), Evan (Alyssa), Aidan, Hannah (Dax), Heidi, Nicole (Adam), Brett (Sarah), Jeremy (Kristina) and great grandfather to several great grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by the Petrie family and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by many good friends especially his dearest friend Pam Mulholland.
Predeceased by brothers Don (Midge), Walter (Marion), Gordon (Muriel).
Friends are invited to the Reception Centre of the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford to celebrate Ted’s life on Saturday, March 29, from 2-5 p.m. Memorial donations in Ted’s memory may be made to Rotary Hospice, Stratford. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
