Obituary of Sylvia Elaine Dominey
Sylvia Elaine (Reid) Dominey
October 18, 1945 – January 2, 2025
Surrounded by her loving family, Sylvia Elaine Dominey, formerly of Lower Sackville, NS went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025 at the Arborstone Enhanced Care home in Halifax, NS. Born in Highbury, NS, Sylvia was the youngest daughter of the late Harry and Kathleen (Keddy) Reid.
Sylvia was a loving and dedicated wife, mom/mama, grandmother “Nan/Nanny”, sister, aunt and friend to so many. Her beauty was ageless and could be seen inside and out. “Mama loved her family fiercely and was always asking about what each of them were up to and surrounded herself by photos of those she cherished. Her devotion to her family was evident in all that she did for them whether it be working alongside Dad or accompanying him fishing, baking everyone’s favourite treats, sewing her girls’ clothes when they were young and making them quilts to keep them warm as they grew older.” Sylvia was an amazing seamstress for the majority of her life and took great pride in her work. It wasn’t unusual to find her ripping out seams and doing it over again until it was “just right”. She even lent her skills in her later years to some of the folks at Arborstone who needed something fixed.
Sylvia walked hand in hand with God every day since the day she met Him. She did not hesitate to share her faith and read her Bible faithfully. She tried her best to live a righteous life. Her faith in God shone through the brightest during some of her more challenging health issues. Her courage and strength were admirable. She will be forever loved and held closely in our hearts.
Sylvia is survived by her loving daughters, Tracy, Dartmouth and Sonia, Halifax; her three grandchildren, Keith (Cecile) Partridge, Eastern Passage; Dominique (Julien) Trapeau, Ottawa; and Zoë Comeau, Halifax. Her two great grandsons, Xavier and Maxim Partridge. Her two sisters, Shirley Shupack, Edmonton, Alberta and Gloria Hiltz, Middleton, NS as well as many nieces and nephews. A very honourable mention goes out to Tracy’s husband, Lucien, who was the best son-in-law a mother could have ever hoped for.
Besides her parents, Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Carl, two brothers, James and Arthur (Sid) and two sisters, Hattie and Doris.
By request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 18th, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Coldbrook Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, NS B4R 1B9
