Sylvia Granato (nee Mongiat) Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Granato (nee Mongiat) on Saturday, March 15, 2025, a beloved Wife, Mother, Nonna and friend.
Sylvia is predeceased by her husband Frank, who left us only 17 months ago. The greatest mother to Maria Gregov, Erick Granato, Paul Granato and Jennifer Taylor and mother-in-law to Steven Taylor, Heidi Granato and Branko Gregov. Loving and devoted Nonna to Isabella, Matthew, Cassandra, Rachel, Nicholas and Ethan. She will also be missed by her best friend, Daisy.
She was born on May 27, 1942 in Fanna, Italy, daughter to Arturo and Maria Mongiat. She immigrated to Canada in 1951.
Sylvia’s elegance, kindness and beauty were a light to all who knew her. Her love and influence will live on through her children and grandchildren, who were the centre of her world.
A woman of remarkable gifts, Sylvia had a special way with children, offering them her love and wisdom. She was proud of the over 15 years she spent working at the Burlington YMCA as the supervisor of the SACC program and Paul A. Fisher Public School.
She poured her heart into her passions: gardening, crafting and cooking – creating a home filled with beauty, warmth and cherished memories. Her meals were more than just food; they were expressions of her love and devotion.
Though she is no longer with us, Sylvia’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her grace, generosity and love will forever be remembered. She will be deeply missed.
We’d like to pay special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital. A special and heartfelt thank you to Nurse Ashley who provided comfort to not only our mother, but also to us.
Friends may visit with the family at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St.N., Waterdown on Tuesday from 6 – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE CHURCH, 715 Centre Rd., Waterdown on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 starting at 10 a.m. followed with entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Burlington. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Please sign the Tribute Wall.
