Sylvia Caroline Schewaga of Edmonton, AB passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024 at the age of 80 years.
Sylvia was born on July 17, 1944 to Steve and Lillian Slemko in Smoky Lake, AB. In 1955 Sylvia moved to Beverley in Edmonton with her mom and two brothers, Clifford and David. She married her husband, Orest, on October 31, 1970. They raised their three children, Michele, Jason, and Jody on their acreage in the Ardrossan area.
Sylvia was a hairdresser by trade but for the past 28 years she was a fixture at the Capilano Walmart. Due to health issues, Sylvia only recently retired on September 13, 2024. She was loved by those who knew her and will be deeply missed by all.
Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Michele Schewaga and Jody (Michael) Olson; her three granddaughters, Sarah, Emma, and Paige Olson; as well as many extended family and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Orest Schewaga; son, Jason Schewaga; mother, Lillian Slemko; father, Steve Slemko; stepfather, Peter Kowelanko; and brothers, Clifford and David Slemko.
A viewing will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. at Park Memorial, 9709 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton. Funeral Service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Jim Nakonechny officiating with interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
