Susan Van Kempen (nee Valentine) passed away peacefully at 83 years old, with her loving family by her side at Erie Shores Healthcare on September 10th, 2025. Survived by her loving husband of 63 years Adrian Van Kempen. Adoring mother of Ann (Kelly), late Joe (2025), Marybeth, Jerry, and B.J. (Michelle). Beloved Gramma of Dylan (Susan), Megan, Lexie, Madison, Ally, Ashton, and Madelyn, and Great Gramma to Elise. Survived by her dear sister Edyth, sister-in-law Tilly (Ken), and brother-in-law Hank (Jackie). Predeceased by her parents, Bernard James and Lorene Valentine, her brother David, her sister-in-law Jean (Case), and many aunts and uncles. Fondly remembered by her cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mom “Gramma” was the heart and soul of our family. She filled our homes with Love, Laughter, and so many treasured memories. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy! Christmas was her favorite time of year from the 45 lb turkeys, old fashioned recipes, and multiple Christmas trees -the bigger the better, she made every minute special. Her happiest moments were when her kitchen table was full, “spaghetti Saturdays” where everyone was always welcome. No matter how long the days on the farm were, she always managed to provide for her family with a smile.
She will be sadly missed by her many friends at Southgate Residence.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, resiliency and the importance of togetherness- lessons we will carry with us always. A special thank you to all of the staff at Erie Shores Healthcare for the exceptional care she received.
Visitation will be held at Kendrick Funeral Home in Kingsville on Sunday, September 14th, 2025, from 2pm to 5pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 15th, 2025, at 10am, with interment to follow at Greenhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
