It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth (Kenny) Stokes on the 16th of February, 2025, at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga in his 74th year.
Kenny was born on April 24, 1951 in the city of Toronto where he lived until July 1973, when at the young age of 23 he purchased and moved into his first and only house in the town of Cooksville. Up until then he had built a little speed boat and would successfully race it at the summer regattas at the cottage and had won many trophies – he was a very good driver. He also shared his dad’s interest of raising and racing pigeons, which he continued on with after moving to his new home, where he built a pigeon coop in the yard. He loved bowling, hunting and fishing, and he always loved dancing.
Being the resourceful guy he was, just like his dad, he had many creative ways of cobbling things together to make them work. Kenny worked in fire protection for the majority of his working career. He retired a number of years ago when he was no longer able to handle the work after his battle with stage 4 cancer, and then contented himself with dancing, boating on Lake Ontario and around the Toronto Islands, playing hockey, and more dancing. He rode his bicycle just about every single day down to Port Credit, his “cottage in the city.” No need to spend time driving up north when the lake is right there.
He is survived by his siblings Joanne (Glen), Douglas (Susan), Wayne (Alicja) and Wendy and predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Stokes. His nieces and nephews included James (Lisa), Michael (Crystal), Richard, Laura, Matthew (Su), Charlie (Kristen) and Nicole (Adam). He also had many great nieces and nephews including Tegan, Sarahfina, Patrick, Lauryn, Ellie, and Charlotte.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to attend the memorial service and reception on Saturday March 1, 2025 at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery and Crematorium, 737 Dundas St E, Mississauga (at Cawthra). Visitation at 11am followed by the service at 12pm in the Magnolia Chapel. Reception onsite to follow. For those unable to join in person, please join virtually via the livestream which can be accessed BY CLICKING THIS LINK.
