Born in Calgary and raised in Hays, Alberta. Joe lived in Lethbridge, Alberta. Joe dedicated much of his life to working in livestock, a career that kept him close to the land he loved. The open prairies, with their endless skies and rolling fields was where he felt most at home.
Beyond his work, Joe had an insatiable curiosity and a deep love for history, particularly war history. He could lose himself for hours in books and documentaries. His knowledge of movies and music was just as vast—and he would play and win music trivia whenever possible. He loved to travel and went down East to spend time with his sister’s family almost every year. He also loved cooking shows, going to restaurants and talking about recipes and food. He had certain favorites like tiramisu and veal parmigiana. He was never far from an Italian restaurant.
Joseph was a beloved brother, son, and uncle, cherished by his family for his kindness, wit, and warm heart. He liked to joke around, and he was an incredible listener. His presence brought comfort, his laughter was contagious, and his stories will be remembered and retold for years to come.
Joe is survived by his mother Theresa Stober (Hays), his sister Joanne Stober (Cam Cameron), his nephew and niece Beckett and Quinn Cameron (Ottawa, Ontario). He is predeceased by his father Frank Stober, grandparents Peter and Rosa Holst, Joseph Stober and Madeline Stober.
Though we wish he had more time, we find solace in knowing that he lived fully, embracing his passions and leaving a lasting mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A Prayer service will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home 2825 32 Street S, Lethbridge, AB, on February 21 at 1pm with Deacon Jim Manzara Officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held in Lethbridge at Our Lady of the Assumption Church 2405 12 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB, on February 22 at 10am with Father Kevin Tumback officiating.
The Prayer service and Celebration of Life will both be live-streamed and may be viewed through Joe’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Rest easy, Joe. The prairies are wide, the music plays on, and your story lives in our hearts forever.
