Stewart Bear Obituary
Stewart Roy Bear
October 13, 1970 to January 1, 2025
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Stewart Bear of Selkirk, MB, on January 1st, 2025, at the young age of 54 years. Stewart was predeceased by his loving mother Rosie, father Jack, step-father Ralph Cook, niece Jacqueline, nephew Josh and cousin Craig. Stewart is survived by his siblings; Richard (Nancy), Kenny, Harvey, Nadine (Blair), Christine (David) and Robert (Brenda); nephews Christopher, Matthew, Karl, Cameron, Kent, Damien and Loki; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and special family friends.
Stewart was born and raised in the family home on Taylor Ave. As a young man, he enjoyed playing sports with his brother Robert, along with cousins and friends from the neighborhood. Stewart and Robert were partners in both work and play throughout their lives, and maintained a special brotherly bond as the two youngest in the family.
Later in life, his passions were many. Stewart loved to go fishing along the Red River with family and friends in the summer, and ice fishing on Lake Winnipeg with cousins Craig and Derek, and good friend Mike Harcus in the winter. He loved listening to his rock music collection (AC / DC), shooting a game of pool uptown with friends, or golfing with big brother Richard at Mars Hills. He was a regular at Saturday afternoon bingo along with Mom and sister Nadine. At bingo he went out of his way to help others. A simple gesture such as serving a cup of tea or coffee was appreciated by the those who needed a little assistance. He was a kind hearted soul, who made friends easily. Stewart was also an avid sports fan, and loved to cheer on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
Stewarts greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with family and friends. Christmas was a special time of year that he took great pride in. Every Christmas he ensured that everyone had a gift under the tree, and was made to feel special. He shopped exclusively at Keystone Sporting Goods, enjoying the kindness and assistance that he received from the staff each time he entered the store.
Stewart endured many medical struggles during his short life, taking away opportunities many of us take for granted. Where ever he could, he went out of his way to help out neighbors, family and friends. Stewart always managed to a maintain a positive mental attitude in order to persevere through each issue. Mother Rosie was his strength and Guardian Angel throughout his life. He thanked her every day for her unconditional love and support.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life is planned for a later date. Stewart will be interned at the St. Peters Old Stone Church, where he will be with his loving mother Rosie, and other loved ones, who have gone before him.
A sincere thank you to his family physician Dr. Alexendra Wood MD, and the wonderful staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, and Selkirk Mental Health Centre who provided compassionate care for Stewart over his final journey.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com. Rest well our dear brother. We are all thankful that you were in our lives. We love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
