Sterling “Blinky” Johnson
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sterling on his own terms on March 14″, 2025 after watching the Brier.
He was a beloved Husband, Father, Papa and Great Papa. He leaves behind the love of his life of 66 years, Joyce (nee Desjardins). Cherished father of Linda MacDougall (John), Debbie Rienguette (Marcel) and David (Joanne). Treasured Papa to Krista, Danielle, Melissa and Candice (Ryan) and Great Papa to Cohen, Arielle and Zackary. Dear son of Bill and Margaret (nee Cornthwaite) (both predeceased). Brothers Norman (Joyce) (both predeceased) and Graeme (predeceased) (Gail). Loving Son in Law of Edward and Jeanne (nee Bigras) Desjardins and his extended Desjardins Family; Maurice (predeceased as infant), Jeanet Cresswell (predeceased) (Brian), Gordon (Diane predeceased) (Rosanna), Richard (Carol-Ann), Louis (Marion), Mark (Kim) Diane Bingham (Wayne) (both predeceased) Will be sadly missed my many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends.
Sterling was raised in Coniston and had a true love of playing baseball, hockey, golf and curling. He was one of the founding members of the Coniston Curling Club. Sterling worked at INCO for 35 years and was proudly retired for 37 years. His true love was where he made his retirement home on Fairbank Lake where he spent his childhood summers. In his early retirement he and Joyce spent 11 winters in Florida. Over the last 8 years they have made Cedarbrook in lively their home and have made new numerous friends. He will always be remembered for his Pig Roasts on Fairbank Lake and this transitioning to an annual BBQ for the residents at Cedarbrook.
A very special thank you to Dr. Singh and the staff at Health Sciences North. Dr. Walton and the home hospice palliative care team, Lindsay his palliative care nurse, Tessa, his PSW palliative care worker and Dr. St. Martin.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Coniston and or the Copper Cliff Curling Club Youth Curling or the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.
