It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley S. McGowan, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, who left us on March 11th 2025 after a long and wonderful life. He was 95 years old.
Stanley was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 10th, 1929, one of 11 children of John & Helen McGowan. In Edinburgh he met and married the love of his life, his late wife Margaret, to whom he was happily married for over 50 years. Throughout his life Stanley exemplified strength, love, resilience and a commitment to his family and community. As a father, uncle and grandfather, he devoted himself to his family, offering them guidance, love, and unwavering support, all with his Scottish wisdom and accent.
Stanley enjoyed very good health throughout most of his 95+ years. Many attended his 95th birthday party in November at his second home, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 101 (Long Branch, Etobicoke, Ontario).
He is survived by his children Barbara, Russell (Randy) and Scott (Linda), his grandchildren Shane (Gillian), Ryan (Danielle), Leigh (Bryan), Jeffrey (Lucinda), Stephen (Kelly), Nicholas and Alexander, as well as his great grandchildren Declan, Jax and Raven.
Stanley is also survived by his step-daughters, Kari, Karen (John), Kelly (John) and Kathy; the daughters of his late partner, June. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Ben, Connie and Connor.
Stanley’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the good fortune of knowing him throughout his life, and all those who were touched by his kindness, strength and sense of humour.
Thanks to all the staff at Mississauga Long Term Care Facility, where he was a popular resident for the last 2 ½ years of his life.
May Stanley rest in peace. We love you and will miss you.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Long Branch Royal Canadian Legion (3850 Lake Shore Blvd. West, Etobicoke, Ontario, M8W 1R3) on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
