With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Sidney “Sid” Jay Mills, 87, of Ennismore, Ontario, who left us suddenly on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre after a brief illness.
Born in Toronto in 1938 to Cleworth and Ida Mills, Sid spent much of his life in Toronto before settling in Ennismore for a well-earned and peaceful retirement.
A hardworking and respected figure in the construction industry, Sid owned and operated a successful construction company in Toronto for many years. He had a true passion for building — not just buildings, but a life filled with love, laughter, and craftsmanship. After retiring, Sid could often be found in his beloved workshop, where he spent countless hours woodworking. Creating furniture for friends and family brought him genuine joy — and his handmade pieces, like him, were built to last.
Sid was known for his quiet strength, sharp wit, and generous spirit. He loved a good story, a well-crafted piece of maple, a good country song, and a room full of family.
He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Dianne; son David (Cindy) Mills; daughter Susie (George) McGinnis; and his cherished grandchildren: Jonathan, Kayla (Richard), Kelsey (Lance), Dalton (Celine), and Cameron (Chloe). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Sidney, Jordan, Rory, Zoey, Tommy, and June, and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Sid was predeceased by his parents, Cleworth and Ida Mills; sister Eleanor Martin Penman (Fred, Frank); brothers Jimmy Mills (Lois) and Ken Mills (Marie, Annette); in-laws Earl and Loris Denny; brother and sister-in-law Roy and Karen Routledge.
His legacy of craftsmanship, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts — and homes — of everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
