Obituary of Shirley Kay
Kay- Shirley Patricia
July 11, 1929-May 3, 2025
With heartfelt love, we remember Shirley Patricia Kay, who passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born July 11, 1929, Shirley’s life was a testament to strength, independence, and the quiet beauty of a life well-lived. She called many places home throughout Ontario; from Fingal, St. Thomas and Exeter, to London, with many other communities in between. Port Stanley will forever bring back fond memories of Shirley, thanks to the many Sunday excursions spent by the water with her brother, Glenn, and friend, Yvette.
Fiercely independent and never one to back down, she approached life with a gentle determination and a deep sense of care for those she loved. Shirley had a green thumb and a gift for baking that brought joy to everyone around her. A devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Shirley’s love of baseball; sparked by her late husband, Gerry brought her many joyful days spent in the sunshine. Baseball, Track and Field, and Figure Skating were more than simple pastimes; they were a shared love that brought family together.
She is predeceased by her brothers Jack and Gary, whose memories remained close to her heart. She is survived by her children, Shelley (Robert), D’Arcy (Kathy) and Goddaughter Kelly, and her dear brother and best friend, Glenn. Above all, her greatest love were her grandchildren: Taylor, Hayley (Blair), Amanda, and Allyson. They were the light of her life and the heart of her world. In them, her legacy lives on.
The family extends their deepest thanks to the Palliative Care Team at Victoria Hospital for the compassion, care, and unwavering support they provided to Shirley and her family in her final journey. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
Shirley will be remembered for her quiet but unwavering strength, her stubborn spirit, and the deep and enduring love that defined her as a Grandmother. She leaves behind a family shaped by her grace and guided by her example. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Interment has taken place at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home 2240 Wharncliffe Rd S London entrusted with the arrangements.
