Obituary of Shirley DeJong
Passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven at her residence on August 14, 2025. Shirley was born to Hugh and Florella MacMillan in Frankville, Ontario. She was raised in Jellyby on the family farm with her eleven siblings. She leaves to mourn her passing: son Rodney (Elise) Kelsey, granddaughter Sierra Kelsey. Stepchildren, Cindy (Bill) Byker and Family, Elaine (Brian) Leeder and Family, Jarrod (Kim) DeJong and Family, Carl (Wendy) DeJong and Family. Her siblings Lois (Bill) Leach and Robert (Lee) MacMillan, in-laws Shirley MacMillan, Dorothy DeJong and Barry DeJong. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Kathleen (Albert) Runions. Shirley is predeceased by her husband and friend Peter DeJong, her first husband Robert Kelsey, son Gregory Kelsey and daughter-in-law Elaine Kelsey, her siblings Dorothy (Gib) Johnston (Ray Hammond), Barbara Kelsey, Illa MacMillan, Leonard (Irene), Ellard (Doreen), Allan (Barb & Ruth), Eddie, Kenneth, Harvey (Carole), Frank DeJong. Also nephews Perry Hammond, Bruce MacMillan, and Kevin Kelsey.
Shirley was a faithful member of the Brockville Wesleyan Church and Bible Study Group -WWWG. She enjoyed traveling, road-trips, Charleston Lake, waterfalls, loved being a snowbird, volunteer for Girl Guides, Athens Food Bank, Church helper, crafts and most importantly her journey with God. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory can be made to the Brockville Wesleyan Church, BDHF Palliative Care or the Ottawa Heart Institute. Arrangements entrusted to Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville. A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at the Brockville Wesleyan Church, 33 Central Ave., Brockville, on Tuesday August 19, 2025 at 12:30pm.
