Obituary of Shirley Anne Lamond
Lamond, Shirley Anne
Shirley Anne (Smith) Lamond was born December 24, 1932 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario. She is predeceased by her parents Harry and Anne Smith. Dear sister of Marjorie (Tony) Cresswell.
She married her high school sweetheart and best friend William (Bill) Lamond on February 16, 1952 and they were happily married for 73 years.
Cherished mother of Ken (Barbara) Lamond of Chatham, Judy (Arnie) Dawson of Chatham and Doug (Nancy) Lamond of London.
Loving grandmother of Jason (Anne) Heinhuis, Michelle Heinhuis (Brandon), Stephanie (Darren) Kints, David Lamond, Mattherw Lamond (Staccie), Laura (Adam) Boon and Blake Lamond (Alexandra).
Adored by her great-grandchildren Dylan, Adam, Mercedes, Lyndsay, Jackson, Hayden, Tyler, Hannah, Abbie, Leah, Luke, Audry, Genevieve, Foster and Anadya.
Aunt of Susan Thompson, Andrew Cresswell and Steven Cresswell.
Godmother of Darby Dwyer.
After meeting in high school and marrying Bill, who joined the Canadian Air Force, they spent the next 18 years building their family and moving from base to base, including Centrilia, Ontario, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Cold Lake, Alberta, Sainte Aulde, France and Base Borden, Ontario. They finally settled in Chatham in 1970 in the house where they remained until 2023. Their house on Coatsworth was known as the place to be in the summers, hosting countless family barbeques and swim parties for their friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During these years they decided that the Canadian winters were not for them and they spent 28 wonderful years traveling to Florida for the winters, enjoying their home in Gold Tree Park in Bradenton.
Shirley’s main love was her family, however she had many other interests that she enjoyed pursuing. She was an active member of The Holy Trinity/St. Paul’s Anglican Church. She was incredibly proud and passionate about her membership with The Order of the Eastern Star. She held several important roles with this cherished group including Matron of Blue Bell Chapter #45 of Chatham, Grand Representative of Tennessee in Ontario, Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter, all of these culminating in her role as the Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Ontario.
She was an avid oil painter, taking lessons from local artist Janet Forsyth and excelled at creating floral and scenic pieces of art that still adorn the walls of their home today. Anyone who knew her was well aware of her love of bunnies, with her collection reaching 300 bunnies. Shirley loved her social gatherings and had a fabulous group of wonderful friends who she and Bill enjoyed playing cards with and just visiting-Shirley’s “gift of gab” was like no other.
Shirley was known for many things, however she will probably be best remembered for her unwavering positivity and tremendous ability to always see the good in every situation and in every person. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and was an incredible example to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 459 St. Clair St, Chatham on Sunday, April 20, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00pm & 6:00 – 8:00pm. Funeral Mass to be held at Holy Trinity/St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 81 Selkirk St., Chatham on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow.
