It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of my beloved mother, Shirley Allison, on January 7, 2025, at the age of 93. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Shirley was a kind and generous soul, always the first to offer a helping hand and a warm smile. She lived an inspiring life filled with love, dedication, and adventure. A passionate skier, Shirley was on the slopes well into her late eighties and steadfastly supported Canadian Alpine Ski Racing. She volunteered tirelessly with her husband, Ron, to ensure athletes had the best ski racing events. Their efforts were cherished by many, as they contributed to everything from grassroots ski races to FIS Alpine Ski events and even the World Cups. One of Shirley’s proudest contributions was her work with the Women’s Downhill event at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, where Canada’s Karen Percy earned a bronze medal. Shirley’s impact on the ski racing community was immense, and countless racers will remember her dedication, warmth, and generosity. She was a true cornerstone of the sport during its golden years in Canada. Beyond the ski slopes, Shirley was known for her incredible baking. Anyone fortunate enough to travel with the teams I raced with likely enjoyed her famous treats, made with love and unmatched skill. Her baking brought comfort and joy to many, just as her spirit brightened every room she entered. In her final days, Shirley was surrounded by love. My wife, my children, and I were by her side at Sechelt Hospital, cherishing every moment with her to her last breath. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the fantastic team at Sechelt Hospital and her exceptional caregivers for ensuring her final days were peaceful and filled with love. Mom, you’ve earned the gold medal when it comes to living life well. Your legacy of kindness, love, and generosity will live on in all of us. We love you to the moon and back and will forever carry you in our hearts.
