It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shelley Kontio (McMillen) on Feb 27, 2025 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Shelley was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend to many. Shelley fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at the age of 61. Shelley was born on November 25, 1963, in Port Arthur, and was a long time resident of Murillo. She is survived by her husband and soulmate Henry Kontio, son Shane Kontio, parents Marilyn and Stan McMillen, sisters Vivian Morin (Glenn), Colleen Maki (Harold), sister in law Kaisa Swerhun (Allen), nieces and nephews Aimée Morin, Sarah Morin (Eli), Leah Jackson (David) Ted Maki (Brianna), Heather Maki, Mekaal Swerhun, Chris Swerhun, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by son Andrew Kontio (2024) mother and father in law Arvi Kontio (1988), Paula Kontio (2023), grandparents Joseph and Mary Berube, Warren and Gratica McMillen.
Shelley attended Pine Street Elementary School, PACI, and went on to study accounting at Confederation College. She has held many jobs in the food industry, most recently Starbucks at Safeway on Arthur street, as well as several cleaning jobs (Murillo Hall and Township Buildings).
Shelley was a kind hearted soul who would go above and beyond for family and friends, she was a mentor to many. Shelley was a longstanding member at the Community Baptist Church in Murillo. She had many close friends there and greatly appreciated all the help and support she recieved especially during her battle with cancer and during the recent passing of her son. Shelley enjoyed camping at Arrow Lake, traveling, many family vacations, crocheting, crafts, cooking or baking. She also enjoyed spending time with their beloved family dog, Tucker, especially at the lake. Funeral Arrangements will take place at 1pm on Saturday March 8th, at the Murillo Community Hall on 4569 Oliver Rd, Murillo, ON. Shelley had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
