With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sheila Schefski (nee. Pierce) at the age of 75. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hans. Though she will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that she and Hans are together again.
Sheila was a warrior until the end. She was loved by her son Eric, daughter-in-law Alissa, and much-adored granddaughter Tenley. She leaves behind her mother Christina Pierce of Woodlands of Sunset in Welland, her sister Jo Anne Zemlicka, her brothers Michael Pierce (Sharon), John Pierce (Karen), and all of her nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Goel and the oncology team for their years of care. They are grateful to the team at Bayshore and Carebridge for going the extra mile and allowing her to live a fulfilling life for the last few years. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and palliative care team at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for taking such great care of Sheila during her final days.
Sheila was known for her strength and kindness. She touched the lives of so many with her work for both the provincial and federal government, her volunteer work and her love for sewing, quilting, gardening and the arts.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ottawa on Saturday, March 29th at the Carleton Place Canoe Club (179 John St, Carleton Place). A second Celebration of Life will be held in the Niagara Region towards the end of April. Please contact Eric at ericschefski@gmail.com if you would like to be informed of plans. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Ottawa Cancer Foundation.
