Sheila Coupland Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Coupland on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in her 99th year.
Sheila was born on March 8, 1926, in Yorkshire, England to Richard George Kenyon and Elsie Barnett. At just 14 years of age, she began work as a weaver, contributing to the war effort by making material for soldiers’ uniforms fighting in WW II. Sheila is predeceased by her beloved husband, Gordon Coupland, as well as her parents and sister, Brenda Naylor.
Sheila and Gordon’s story began at a dance and they continued dancing through life together for 63 years. In 1951, Sheila and Gordon immigrated to Canada, working hard to create a new life for their family.
Throughout her life, Sheila devoted herself to her home and family, contributing to the design and building of the family homes and decorating them with handmade items. She was a craft enthusiast, finding joy in making things for her children and extended family. Roast beef and Yorkshire puddings were served almost every Sunday.
Sheila will be missed by her children Gail, Stephen and David, along with their spouses, Dean and Kathy. She was loved by her eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her doctors, nurses, and staff at Conservatory Pond Retirement Home for their compassionate care and the kindness they showed Sheila during her time there. Your support has been a comfort to us all.
Sheila’s grace and wit will be missed by all who knew her.
