Obituary of Scott Robert Alpen
Scott Robert Fudge Alpen
March 6, 1977 – February 20, 2025
Scott Alpen, 47, passed away suddenly in Halifax, NS. Born in Halifax, Scott was the beloved son of Doug & Myrtice (Fudge) Alpen and the younger brother to Craig. He is also remembered by aunts, Margaret Alpen and Grace (Robert) Lachapelle, uncles Scott (Sheila) Alpen and Marshall Fudge, along with many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Doug Alpen, Grandparents John Marshall & Mary Jane Fudge, Robert & Mary Alpen.
From a bubbly, curly-haired blonde little boy, Scott grew into a friendly, caring, and endlessly curious young man. He was known for his warm smile and his ability to make friends wherever he went. His early years were marked by adventure as his family moved across Canada, living in Dartmouth, NS; Rothesay, NB; Prince Rupert, Vancouver, & Victoria, BC.
Scott attended university for two years before deciding to explore other paths. His adventurous spirit led him into the Construction Field, where his dedication and hard work were evident. Along the way, Scott also excelled as a Sous Chef and a Landscaper, proving his versatility and determination to succeed at whatever he pursued.
As a young man, Scott was deeply involved in his community, giving his time and energy to several organizations. He participated in Scouting, receiving his Chief Scout Award. He volunteered with MADD, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Tourette Syndrome Foundation. Scott also served as a Church Camp Counselor, a Server at his church, was a member of the BC Anglican Youth Association and was actively involved in a Bible Study Group. His generous spirit extended to helping others academically, as he tutored math during his high school years.
Scott’s life was also filled with activities that brought him joy and connection. He loved camping and skiing with his family, creating treasured memories on those adventures. He was an avid athlete, playing soccer, basketball, and softball. In his later years in Lewisporte, Scott continued his love of sports by joining the local softball community. Music was another passion, and Scott skillfully played both the saxophone and piano.
Throughout his adult life, Scott continued his journey across Canada, living in Prince George, Victoria, Calgary, Moncton, and Halifax. Following the passing of his father in 2018, Scott moved to Lewisporte, providing comfort to his mother during a difficult time.
Scott will be remembered for his generous heart, his curiosity about the world, and his ability to find beauty and purpose in everything he did. His life may have been cut short, but his impact on those who knew him will endure.
His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his laughter, his kindness, and his adventurous spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Lewisporte on March 9 at 2:00PM. It will be followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Any donations in Scott’s memory may be made to Newfoundland & Labrador Public Libraries (NLPL) through paypal, cheque or money order.
